Background:
Born into the royal family of the Kahatawara clan, the emperor
was furious when he found out that his first-born is a
girl(According to the clan tradition, the first-borns are the
ones who inherits the throne of the clan and rules all). Afraid
that his clan will crumble under the weak rules of a female
ruler, the emperor decides to raise his daughter as a man, and
keeps her true gender in secret. This child was named Ran. Ran’s
mother is deported into exile under the fury of the emperor, and
those who were present at her birth are either killed or in
prison as political prisoners. In order to make his daughter as
strong as other princes, the emperor pushes Ran into training
with swords and weapons early in her life. When she was 10, her
dad takes her to the frontline of a major battle so she could
experience the fury of war, and also forcing Ran to kill a
prisoner of war, so she would be fearless later on in life. As
Ran grew, her gender becomes harder to hide, and after meeting
by accident one of the nannies who were there in her birth, she
learns of her true gender. The emperor, furious from the
meeting, orders the killing of everybody in that prison. This
was when Ran decides to throw away whatever beliefs she had in
her father, and takes the name ‘Val’, which means ‘nothingness’
in their native language. Val deviates herself from her dad, and
devotes herself to learning about the culture and arts from
their nation. Her dad, given up hope, agrees to marry her off to
the Fujisaki clan in order to gain peace and friendship from
that clan. Val, although resistant at first, reluctantly agrees
later on in order to keep the peace between the clans and avoid
war. Carried off and guarded by the zodiacs of the Fujisaki
clan, she arrives to the castle. Yet as they were saying their
marriage vows, one of the clans of their side betrays them, and
this leads to a bloody battle. As the prince’s personal zodiac
escorts him to safety, Val makes his training to use and tries
to cut off anybody trying to get to the prince. She duels with a
****-hair assassin, loses to him, gets wounded, and he runs
towards the prince. And as she lies on the snow bleeding, she
stares at the sky, the snow petals drifting down, dancing in the
dark sky. She loses consciousness, connecting to the “Alpha”
storyline… |
